Well, here it is - June 1st - the first day of Hurricane Season. Unfortunately, we've already had one named storm
this year. The forcasters and NOAA are predicting an active season with 17 named storms, 9 of those to become hurricanes
and 5 of those to become major hurricanes. We are keeping both the water supply and the deisel fuel (for the generator)
stocked and just pray that we don't have to use either one. At least the installers are finishing the installation of
the new hurricane shutters today. These are much easier to use than the old ones. Even if Chad is off island,
I can close up the house myself if necessary.
At least we take a little comfort in the fact that should we be hit by a major storm, we are on the lower level of a house.
If the roof should get torn off, we are still a floor down. Also, we have 1 foot thick solid concrete walls - both interior
and exterior. We should fare rather well in any case. Last year, everyone was lucky with no storms hitting any
US soil at all. After the season was over, we all lifted our glasses and toasted the season - hoping for a repeat this
year. We'll see how it goes.
